Wednesday 03-05-2008 day two Koh Samed

This morning I got up early to see the sun rise. You could not see it until it was higher in the sky. We left the island about 1:00PM and am now back in Pattaya.

Pictures from day two.

Tuesday 03-04-Koh Samed

On tuesday we went to Koh Samed. It is an island about 5 miles away from Thailand in the Gulf of Thailand. We stayed at the Tonsak Resort. We rented scooters. The cost was $6.00 a day to rent them. We rode almost every road on the island. Did a little swimming. The water was crystal clear. You could see your feet and the sand.

Sunday 3-2-2008 Buddha Mountain

Today we went to Khao Chichan's engraved Buddha image. It is the largest effigy of it's kind (130m. high and 70m. wide). It was dreated to be presented to King Bhumibol as the Buddha image to celebrate the 50th anniversary of his accession to the throne in 1996. After that we visited some more elephants in a small village. The baby in the picture is 7 months. old. Next we went to Wat Yannasangwararam, a royal temple dedicated to King Bhumibol Adulyadej. The park like temple is scenic and tranquil and consists of several beautiful buildings, both religious and non-religious.

Thursday 2-28-2008 The Great Elephant Ride

I got to ride an elephant today. It was a lot of fun.

We went to Nong Nooch Tropical Botanical Garden and Resort. Here is where we watched the Elephant Show. It was great and I got to become part of the final act. I just had to trust the Elephant would not step on me too hard.

The above picture was the sunrise view from my motel room this morning. The Singapore Flyer

Left Singapore this morning and I am now at my motel room in Pattaya, Thialand. The flight was about two hours and the ride to the motel was about 3 hours. It is very different here. There are motor bikes everywhere going in and out of traffic.

Monday Evening 2-25-2008 Night Safari

In the evening we went to Brazil Churrascaria to eat. This resturant was very different from any other resturants that I have been to. They had a salad bar and they brought several types of meat to your table on a steel rod and sliced off meat onto your plate. When you were finished with that meat they would bring another. After we ate we went on to The Night Safari. This is like taking a ride in the zoo at night to see the night time animals. The ride and walking tour took about 1 1/2 hours. The amimals were mostly from SE Asia and Africa.

The pictures are a little dark because we were not allowed to use a flash.

Monday 2-25-2008 China Town

Pim and I took a walk to China Town. China town is probably a mile or two away from the motel room. It was very interesting. The wet market was closed today(monday). Maybe I'll take a quick walk down there again tomorrow so I can see the fresh produce and fish market.

Sunday Morning 2-24-2008

02 23 2008 Arrived in Singapore

Arrived in Singapore about 12:00 Noon. We flew over Vietnam on the way here. After we got the baggage we went on to the motel. We took a taxi. It was a little different. These people drive on the wrong side of the road like they do in England. The temp was probably around 90 deg. After cleaning up we meet my brothers friend, Pim. We took the rapid transit to a Thai resturant and then went for drinks. I liked most of what I ate. Everybody seems to speak English here. I'm not sure if I'll get used to the time difference here. It is 13 hours ahead of the time back home.

First Day of Travel to Singapore

Well I left for Pittsburgh Airport at 5:00AM got there about 5:30. I checked at the Delta check in counter and was able to get my bag checked in all the way to Singapore. Got on the plane after waiting in security for about 1/2 hour. The plane stayed in the de-icing booth for about 45 ninutes. Arrived late in Cincinati and only had 9 minutes to get on the plane for San Fransisco. That was the fastest I moved in a while but I made it on the plane and am now at the airport in San Francisco waiting for the next leg ot the journey. It is raining in SF so I'll probably stay put until the next flight. That will this evening.
